When a baby is cruelly taken away from a parent they find themselves with nobody to hold; which is why many bereaved parents buy (or are given) mementos by which they can remember their loss.

These mementos can take a number of forms, and there is no limit to how many there are: for example, Knitionalist on Twitter said that she had 'a Sands box with his hospital bracelet, lock of hair, vest he wore, muslin square he was wrapped in, foot/handprints, pics, cards...I have also kept my bottom drawer full of little socks, bibs, vests, shoes, hats, etc.'

Sam Cam, Thank You Ma'am

The other day I sifted through the post: bills, more bills, junk mail...and an envelope with '10 DOWNING STREET' printed on it. 

Cue instant confusion, and a number of initial thoughts - many quite bizarre. I didn't tweet anything mean about David Cameron, did I? Am I going to be the next Prime Minister? 

Turns out it was a letter from the Office of Samantha Cameron, responding to an interview request I'd made earlier this year, to run at the same time 'How I Came To Hold You' is published. 

Unfortunately, it was a no-go, but I appreciated the personal touch; it was evident that the letter was not simply a standard rejection template. Here is the full text:

There are many people who take a tragedy or an awful situation and turn it into something positive. Some of those interviewed for 'How I Came To Hold You' did just that: take Mel, for example, who set up Finley's Footprints, or Sophia, whose loss inspired her to set up Count the Kicks.

I was recently put in touch with Karen, who - in 2005 - gave birth to a son at only 24 weeks pregnant. Jack is now seven years old; but he is one of the lucky ones. Karen and her husband, Alan, fought tooth and nail for their son's survival, and their experiences have motivated them to make a film about premature birth in order to raise awareness. They are looking for funding and are tight for time, as Raechel, of 24w Media Ltd, explains...
