Well there we were, one Tuesday evening. Amelia and I were playing, and she took those first wobbly steps all on her own. Like any proud mummy I shed a tear of joy at my beautiful little girl taking those first steps. They are made even more special after her start in life. Amelia is a surviving twin who was born at 26 weeks. She spent three and a half months in hospital and a further three months on home oxygen. Those first steps were such a milestone for her. An incredible moment that 15 months ago we never thought we would see.
There will be so many more firsts like this. I intend to revel and enjoy every single one with Amelia and spend time thinking of Jessica and how proud she must be looking down on her sister. To have a surviving twin is a constant roller coaster of emotions. For every high there is always the shadow that reminds you that in a perfect world she should be joined by her sister.
